Budgam DC backs youth sports, anti-drug drive

Budgam, Aug 21: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Budgam, Athar Aamir Khan, today witnessed the final match of a volleyball tournament organised by the local youth at Aarath, Budgam.

The final was played between Safapora Ganderbal Club and Outlaw Anantnag. A total of 16 teams from different areas participated in the tournament.
Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner appreciated the organisers for providing a platform to young sportspersons. He said sports promote discipline, teamwork, leadership and a healthy lifestyle, while providing youth with a positive avenue to channel their energy and talent.
The Deputy Commissioner said that the District Administration is committed to promoting sports and strengthening sporting infrastructure across Budgam. He said sustained efforts are being made to provide better facilities and opportunities to youth, encourage grassroots-level participation and identify emerging sporting talent across the district.
He encouraged young people to actively participate in sports and stay away from drugs and other harmful activities.
The Deputy Commissioner congratulated the organisers and participating teams on the successful conduct of the tournament and conveyed his best wishes to the players.
A large number of sportspersons, senior citizens, local residents, youth and officials were present on the occasion.
