BSF stands by martyr’s family in Karnah

October 07, 2026 | Dr Ashfaq Ahmad

Karnah:, Oct 6: Some bonds go beyond time, distance and even death. A touching example of such a bond was witnessed in Gabra area of Karnah, where the 31 BSF stood beside the family of martyr Rafiq Ahmad on the occasion of his daughter’s wedding.

Rafiq Ahmad, a resident of Gabra, Karnah, who served in the BSF, was martyred in Shillong in 2007. Nearly two decades after his supreme sacrifice, his daughter’s wedding became an occasion for his BSF family to once again remind his family that his sacrifice and memory have not been forgotten.
On the special occasion, senior BSF officers and personnel reached Gabra and met the martyr’s family. They presented gifts and other items for the wedding and extended their support in helping with various arrangements connected with the ceremony.
The gesture was deeply appreciated by the family as well as the local residents. Speaking about the initiative, locals expressed happiness and said that the BSF’s presence on such an important family occasion was a beautiful expression of brotherhood and solidarity between the security forces and the people of Karnah.
Residents said that such gestures send a powerful message that the relationship between the security forces and border communities is not limited to security duties. During difficult times, emergencies, fire incidents and other situations, as well as important family occasions, the BSF, Army and Police have often stood alongside the local population.
For a daughter, a father’s absence on her wedding day is an emptiness that can never truly be filled. Yet, the presence of his BSF family offered a deeply meaningful reminder that the sacrifice of a soldier does not end with his passing.
Through their gesture, the BSF conveyed a simple but powerful message to the martyr’s daughter and family: the nation remembers her father, and his BSF family continues to stand with her.
The occasion also served as a reminder of the enduring respect accorded to those who make the ultimate sacrifice in the service of the nation. Martyr Rafiq Ahmad’s memory continues to live on not only in the hearts of his family but also among his fellow personnel and the people of his native Karnah.
The local community appreciated the 31 BSF for honouring the martyr’s family in such a meaningful and compassionate manner, describing it as a positive example of trust, respect and brotherhood between the security forces and the people living in the border areas.
As the martyr’s daughter begins a new chapter of her life, the people of Karnah joined in extending their heartfelt blessings and best wishes, praying that her jurney ahead is filled with happiness, peace, love and prosperity.
The story of Rafiq Ahmad reminds us that while a martyr may leave this world, his courage, sacrifice and legacy continue to live on—and his family is never forgotten.
