Baramulla student overcomes depression

April 20, 2026 | Shugufta Rashid/Nisar Malik

Baramulla, Apr 19: In a story of resilience and recovery, a student from Baramulla district has successfully overcome depression through timely counselling and support, highlighting the importance of mental health awareness and intervention.

The student, whose identity has been withheld for privacy, had been struggling with emotional distress and prolonged periods of anxiety, largely triggered by academic pressure and personal challenges. Family members noticed a gradual withdrawal from daily activities, loss of interest in studies, and social isolation—early signs that prompted them to seek professional help.
With the guidance of trained counsellors and regular therapy sessions, the student began a structured journey toward recovery. The counselling process focused on emotional expression, stress management, and rebuilding self-confidence. Over time, the student showed significant improvement, gradually regaining interest in academics and reconnecting with family and peers.
Experts involved in the case said that early intervention played a crucial role in the recovery. They emphasized that depression, especially among students, often goes unnoticed or is misunderstood, making awareness and open communication essential.
The student also credited family support as a key factor in the healing process. “Having someone listen without judgment made a huge difference,” the student shared, adding that counselling helped in understanding emotions and developing coping strategies.
Mental health professionals stress that such cases underline the need to normalize conversations around psychological well-being, particularly in regions where stigma and lack of awareness often prevent individuals from seeking help.
Today, the student is back on track, focusing on studies and future goals with renewed confidence. The case serves as a reminder that with the right support system and timely care, recovery from depression is not only possible but can lead to a stronger, more hopeful outlook on life.
