Autumn- The Season of Fall

October 21, 2026 | Dr Saadat Nazir Shah

For me, autumn is more than just a season. It is the canvas on which my imagination paints the beauty of change and the poetry of falling leaves. After every fall, there is always a rise, and autumn reminds me of that truth.

A few days ago, my son learned about the four seasons in school. He came to me excitedly and said, “Mom, tell me more about the seasons; summer, autumn, winter, and spring.” So I told him about autumn, and of course one of my favourite season’s.
As summer’s warmth softens and the first cool breeze brushes the earth, autumn arrives like a gentle poet—quiet, , beautiful and full of meaning. The season paints the world in shades of burnt orange, gold, and rust red ,reminding us that beauty often lies in transitions. In Kashmir, where every season writes its own story, autumn—Harud—is perhaps the most soulful chapter of the year.
The rustling of fallen leaves underfoot, the saffron fields ready for harvest, and the crisp air that carries the scent of change, all of these invite us to pause and reflect. Autumn is not merely a shift in weather; it is a spiritual metaphor, a reminder of the cycles of life, humility, and gratitude.
In Islam, the changing of seasons is considered among the great signs of Allah’s power and wisdom. The Qur’an repeatedly invites believers to reflect on nature as a means of strengthening faith.
The example of the believer is like a fresh, tender plant; the wind bends it, but when the wind dies down, it straightens up again.” (Sahih al-Bukhari)
Autumn, with its winds and shedding trees, mirrors this resilience. Just as trees let go of their leaves to prepare for renewal, believers are reminded to release burdens, cleanse their hearts, and prepare for spiritual growth.
In Kashmir, autumn transforms the landscape into a living painting. The famed Chinar trees turn fiery red, their leaves drifting down like embers from a silent flame. The Dal Lake mirrors the golden hues of the surrounding hills, and orchards brim with apples ready for harvest. It is a season that blends nostalgia with hope, a reminder that endings are often beginnings in disguise.
The autumn season is like a poetry that need’s to be felt, the quietness of this season teaches us alot!
Let us take a break from becoming CYBERZOMMBIES and observe the change of nature!
