Srinagar, Sep 20: The 10-day autumn session of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly will start from Monday as opposition parties, including the BJP and PDP, plan to corner the Omar Abdullah government over public issues.

National Conference MLAs and supporting Independents met in Srinagar to discuss the floor strategy of the treasury benches.
NC president Farooq Abdullah chaired the meeting of the legislature party that is headed by Omar Abdullah.
Talking to reporters after the meeting, NC chief spokesperson and Zadibal MLA Tanvir Sadiq said, “We had a good discussion. We discussed the issues of Jammu and Kashmir. It was a big discussion”.
He said legislators discussed how issues concerning the people should be presented in the Assembly, adding that separate discussions were also held among Congress legislators and with the Chief Minister.
“All the major discussions were about how to present [the issues] in the House and how the people have mandated us to raise their issues,” he said.
On the alliance between the NC and Congress, Sadiq said there was no doubt about its strength and expressed confidence that the Assembly proceedings would run smoothly.
“There is no doubt. It is a strong alliance. The Assembly will run well from tomorrow,” he said.
Asked about the Opposition’s preparations, Sadiq said the government was ready to respond to questions and issues raised in the House.
The opposition BJP said the National Conference government has failed on all fronts.
BJP leaders plan to raise the outsourcing of government jobs, corruption in public offices and the delay in holding panchayat and urban local bodies' polls. The electricity tariff hike and "failure" to deliver on election promises will also figure in the BJP's floor tactics to corner the government.
PDP has said it will focus on unemployment, outsourcing of jobs, the reservation policy, and the regularisation of daily wagers in government service.
According to the provisional calendar issued by Speaker of Legislative Assembly, Abdul Rahim Rather, the session will begin with obituary references on September 21, followed by taking up government business the next day.
The private members' bills will be discussed on September 24 followed by private members' resolutions the next day. On September 28, the house will again discuss private members' bills followed by government business on 29 and 30.
The Autumn session will start with obituary references on demise of Dr. Sheikh Mustafa Kamal, Dharam Paul and Ghulam Hassan Khan, all former ministers.
The House will then take up the Question Hour, with questions listed separately for answers by the government, they said.
The Speaker will also announce the Panel of Chairmen for the session, sources added.
Justice Hasnain Masoodi, Chairman of the House Committee, will lay on the Table of the House a copy of the report of the panel constituted to probe alleged irregularities in the implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. The committee was constituted vide No. L.A.1994-2014/legn/2025 dated April 9, 2025.
The Minister In-charge Cooperatives Javid Ahmad Dar will introduce a Bill to amend the Jammu and Kashmir Cooperative Societies Act, 1989, to repeal the Jammu and Kashmir Self Reliant Cooperative Act, 1999 and to provide a transitional arrangement for self-reliant cooperatives under the 1989 Act. The Bill — LA. Bill No. 9 of 2026 — has already been published in an extraordinary issue of the Official Gazette.
