Jammu, Feb 18: The Jammu and Kashmir Assembly was adjourned on Wednesday after BJP MLAs protested against police action on students demanding a National Law University (NLU) in Jammu.
The uproar occurred during discussions on departmental grants presented by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, with BJP legislators carrying placards reading “NLU for Jammu” and chanting slogans. Speaker Mubarak Gul directed MLAs to refrain from displaying placards inside the House.
In response to the protest, Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary accused BJP members of staging a drama to mislead the public. Meanwhile, NC MLA Nazir Gurezi challenged BJP MLAs to protest outside the Lieutenant Governor’s office if they truly supported the students.
As BJP legislators continued their disruption, the Speaker adjourned the House.
