Champhai, Sep 27: Assam Rifles, under the Spear Corps, in coordination with the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) and Mizoram Police, seized a large consignment of areca nuts and poppy seeds valued at approximately ₹17.89 crore in Champhai district of Mizoram.

According to officials, the joint operation led to the seizure of around 1,25,680 kg of areca nuts and 25,440 kg of poppy seeds during an operation conducted in the border district.
The seizure was carried out as part of coordinated efforts by the security and enforcement agencies to curb illicit trade and strengthen surveillance in the border areas of Mizoram.
The participation of Assam Rifles, DRI and Mizoram Police reflects the importance of inter-agency coordination in identifying and disrupting networks involved in the movement of unauthorised consignments through the region.
Officials said the operation also highlights the continued efforts of the security forces and enforcement agencies to maintain vigilance along vulnerable border routes and prevent the misuse of the region for illegal trade.
The seized consignments, estimated to be worth ₹17.89 crore, were taken into custody for further legal and investigative action. The agencies are expected to examine the origin, intended destination and supply chain associated with the seized goods as part of the follow-up investigation.
The Assam Rifles said the operation underscores the security forces’ resolve to safeguard border regions and disrupt illicit trade networks through sustained surveillance and coordinated action.
The latest seizure also highlights the role of joint operations involving security, intelligence and enforcement agencies in strengthening border management and combating illegal activities in the region.
