Imphal, July 15: In a swift humanitarian operation, Assam Rifles personnel successfully carried out the emergency medical evacuation of a 30-year-old woman suffering from severe postpartum complications from the remote Chonjang village in Manipur's Tengnoupal district, ensuring she received timely specialised medical care.
The incident occurred on July 12, shortly after the woman delivered a baby boy at her residence. Soon after childbirth, she developed life-threatening complications, including excessive postpartum bleeding and a rapidly weakening pulse, requiring immediate medical intervention.
With no immediate access to advanced healthcare facilities in the remote village, the Village Secretary rushed to the nearby Assam Rifles Company Operating Base (COB) at Chonjang and sought urgent assistance.
Responding without delay, Assam Rifles personnel mobilised a rescue team and arranged emergency transportation for the critically ill woman. Despite the challenging terrain and limited connectivity in the border district, the troops ensured her safe and timely evacuation to a higher medical facility for specialised treatment.
Officials said the prompt response by the Assam Rifles played a crucial role in stabilising the patient and significantly improved her chances of recovery.
The humanitarian mission once again highlighted the force's commitment to serving communities in remote and border areas, where it often extends support beyond security duties by providing emergency medical assistance, disaster relief and humanitarian aid.
Local residents expressed gratitude to the Assam Rifles for their swift intervention, stating that the timely evacuation proved lifesaving for the young mother.
The operation underscores the vital role played by the Assam Rifles in ensuring access to emergency healthcare in difficult and inaccessible regions of the Northeast, reinforcing its image as a trusted partner of local communities.
