Assam Rifles promotes organ donation in Thoubal

August 23, 2026 | BK NEWS SERVICE

Thoubal, Aug 22: The Assam Rifles organised an organ donation awareness session at Phundrei in Thoubal district of Manipur on August 21, sensitising its personnel about the life-saving potential of organ donation and encouraging a spirit of service and humanity.

The session was conducted by the Assam Rifles Medical Officer and attended by more than 50 personnel. Participants were briefed on the importance of organ donation and the procedures involved in pledging organs.
The awareness programme covered key aspects including eligibility criteria, legal provisions, the role of the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (NOTTO), Green Corridors and online registration procedures.
The session also provided personnel an opportunity to clarify their concerns and understand the process involved in becoming an organ donor. An interactive discussion encouraged participants to consider voluntary pledging and highlighted how a single donor can potentially save or improve multiple lives.
One of the participating personnel expressed willingness to pledge organs through the NOTTO online portal, giving a practical dimension to the awareness initiative.
The organisers emphasised that greater public awareness and informed voluntary participation are essential for strengthening the organ-donation ecosystem. By providing accurate information about procedures and legal safeguards, such programmes can help address misconceptions and encourage more people to consider donation.
The initiative also reflected the broader humanitarian role of security forces, where awareness and community-oriented activities complement their operational responsibilities.
The Assam Rifles said such awareness efforts help promote a culture of compassion, responsibility and service, while encouraging personnel to contribute to society in ways that can have a lasting impact.
The programme concluded with a renewed emphasis on informed decision-making and voluntary organ donation, reinforcing the message that one pledge can become a gift of life to someone in need.
