Phaikoh, Feb 21: The Assam Rifles conducted a Tree Plantation Drive at Phaikoh village as part of its ongoing efforts to promote environmental conservation and community engagement in border areas. The initiative saw active participation from villagers, including elders, women, and youth, who joined hands to plant saplings and enhance the green cover of the area.
The drive aimed to strengthen climate resilience, foster environmental awareness, and encourage local ownership of ecological preservation efforts. Assam Rifles officials emphasized that such initiatives not only contribute to sustainable development but also reinforce civil-military cooperation, building trust and collaboration with local communities.
Villagers expressed appreciation for the programme, noting that it provides both practical environmental benefits and a platform to engage constructively with security forces in their region. The plantation drive is part of Assam Rifles’ broader strategy to integrate community welfare, environmental stewardship, and sustainable livelihoods alongside its security mandate in remote and strategic locations.
Officials confirmed that more such drives are planned in the coming months to further strengthen the green cover, promote biodiversity, and instill environmental consciousness among residents of Manipur’s border villages.
