
Shillong, Feb 19: Assam Rifles, under the aegis of Spear Corps, successfully facilitated the Northeast leg of the National Integration Tour for 23 delegates from Manipur on 18–19 February 2026. The initiative aimed at fostering a deeper understanding of governance, community development, and national unity among participants from the Northeastern states.
During the visit, the delegation called on the Hon’ble Governor of Meghalaya, Shri C.H. Vijayashankar, who emphasized the importance of inclusive governance, social cohesion, and regional cooperation in promoting development and stability across the Northeast. The Governor encouraged the delegates to actively participate in initiatives that strengthen local communities while preserving cultural identity and heritage.
The group also interacted with the Additional Director General of Assam Rifles in Shillong, gaining insights into the role of the paramilitary force in maintaining peace, supporting development projects, and facilitating civic engagement in the region. Officials highlighted Assam Rifles’ efforts in promoting youth engagement, national integration, and disaster management, reinforcing the Corps’ commitment to serving communities beyond traditional defence duties.
The delegates participated in structured discussions, workshops, and field visits that showcased best practices in governance, community welfare projects, and public administration. The program was designed to broaden perspectives, encourage inter-state cooperation, and instill a sense of shared responsibility towards nation-building.
Through such initiatives, Assam Rifles continues to strengthen civil-military synergy, foster national integration, and enhance awareness of the strategic and cultural significance of the Northeastern region. The visit concluded with delegates expressing appreciation for the exposure, guidance, and interactive sessions that enhanced their understanding of governance, unity, and community progress.
