Tamenglong, Oct 14: The Assam Rifles, under the Spear Corps, has distributed sewing machines, sewing kits and sets of weaving equipment among local women in Tamenglong district of Manipur under Operation Sadbhavana, reaffirming its commitment to women’s empowerment and sustainable livelihood generation.
The initiative aims to strengthen the skills of women and create opportunities for self-employment, entrepreneurship and income generation through tailoring, weaving and other related activities.
The equipment is expected to help beneficiaries pursue productive work, develop their craftsmanship and explore small-scale business opportunities. By providing essential tools for skill-based activities, the initiative seeks to encourage greater financial independence and enable women to contribute more effectively to their household incomes.
The programme also highlights the importance of promoting traditional skills and supporting local entrepreneurship, particularly in areas where access to livelihood opportunities can be limited. Tailoring and weaving can provide women with avenues to utilise their skills, develop marketable products and gradually establish independent sources of income.
Under Operation Sadbhavana, the Assam Rifles has undertaken initiatives aimed at community welfare and socio-economic development in the region. The distribution of sewing and weaving equipment reflects this approach, with a focus on practical support that can help beneficiaries pursue livelihood activities beyond the immediate assistance provided.
The initiative underscores the role of skill development and access to resources in advancing women’s empowerment. By encouraging self-reliance and entrepreneurship, the programme seeks to support local women in building sustainable livelihoods and contributing to the wider socio-economic development of their communities.
