Assam Rifles assists in civilian truck recovery in Manipur

March 16, 2026 | BK News Service

Maram Khullen, Mar 15: In a coordinated rescue operation, personnel from the Assam Rifles under Spear Corps successfully recovered a civilian truck that had slipped into a roadside ditch near Maram Khullen village along National Highway 129A.

The incident occurred when the truck, en route through the hilly terrain of southern Manipur, lost control and veered off the road, landing in a deep ditch. Fortunately, the driver and accompanying personnel were unharmed, but the vehicle was left stranded, blocking part of the highway and posing a risk to other commuters.
Responding promptly, the Assam Rifles team deployed a combination of heavy machinery, including a JCB and a recovery vehicle, to carefully extract the truck. The operation, which lasted nearly six hours, required precision and coordination due to the steep embankment and the vehicle’s unstable position.
Officials from the Assam Rifles highlighted the importance of timely intervention in ensuring both road safety and minimal disruption to traffic. “Our teams are trained to provide immediate assistance in such situations, ensuring the safety of civilians while maintaining the integrity of the highway,” said a spokesperson.
Local residents and travelers praised the efforts of the Assam Rifles, noting that the quick recovery helped reopen the highway and prevented further inconvenience. Authorities also reminded drivers to exercise caution while navigating the region’s challenging roads, especially during adverse weather conditions.
This operation reflects the Assam Rifles’ ongoing commitment to assisting local communities beyond security duties, emphasizing humanitarian support and road safety in remote and hilly areas of Manipur
