Guwahati, July 29: Marking World Nature Conservation Day, Assam Rifles and Indian Army formations under Spear Corps, in collaboration with local communities, students and veterans, organised extensive tree plantation and cleanliness awareness drives across the northeastern states, reaffirming their commitment towards environmental protection and sustainable development.

The initiatives were conducted at several locations, including Churachandpur, Bishnupur, Chandel and Khongsang in Manipur, Jotsoma in Kohima, Nagaland, and Jonai near East Siang in Arunachal Pradesh. The programmes witnessed active participation from residents, educational institutions and community members, who joined hands with security forces to promote environmental conservation.
During the drives, participants planted saplings and carried out cleanliness campaigns while spreading awareness about the importance of protecting natural resources, preserving biodiversity and maintaining ecological balance. The events aimed to encourage collective responsibility towards safeguarding the environment for future generations.
Army and Assam Rifles personnel highlighted that environmental conservation is a shared responsibility and requires active participation from every section of society. They stressed that small community-led efforts, such as plantation drives and cleanliness campaigns, can contribute significantly towards combating environmental challenges.
