Absconder in cheating case held in Srinagar

Budgam, Sep 19: Police have apprehended an absconding accused from Hawal area of Srinagar in connection with multiple cheque-bounce cases and a cheating case registered at Police Station Magam, officials said.

The accused was identified as Reyaz Ahmad Dar, a resident of Attina, Beerwah. Police said he was wanted in connection with FIR No. 26/2024 registered at Police Station Magam under Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code and was also figuring in the absconder/missing list maintained by Police Station Beerwah.
Police said the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Budgam, had issued a warrant against Dar in connection with proceedings under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, which deals with dishonour of cheques.
Acting on specific information, a team from Police Station Beerwah, in coordination with Police Station Zadibal in Srinagar, traced and apprehended Dar from Hawal, police said.
During preliminary investigation, police said Dar was allegedly involved in cheating several persons by gaining their confidence through representations relating to gold-related business transactions.
Police further said that following the alleged transactions, Dar left the business and remained absconding for a considerable period.Further legal proceedings are underway, police said
