Jiribam , Aug 21: Security forces have intensified their campaign against narcotics trafficking in Manipur, with the Assam Rifles under the Spear Corps, in coordination with the state Police, intercepting a boat carrying suspected contraband in Jiribam.
Acting on intelligence inputs, the joint team intercepted the boat and launched a swift pursuit. Six individuals were apprehended during the operation, officials said.
The operation led to the recovery of approximately 90,000 Yaba tablets, estimated to be worth around ₹27 crore, along with 48 grams of heroin valued at about ₹28.80 lakh. The seizure represents a significant disruption to suspected narcotics trafficking activity in the region.
The recovery of a large quantity of synthetic drugs, particularly Yaba tablets, has highlighted the continuing challenge posed by organised narcotics networks operating through difficult terrain and waterways. The involvement of multiple agencies in the operation also underlines the importance of coordinated intelligence and enforcement efforts in tackling the illegal drug trade.
The apprehended individuals and the recovered contraband have been handed over to the concerned authorities for further legal proceedings. Investigators are expected to examine the source of the drugs, their intended destination and the wider network allegedly involved in their transportation and distribution.
The successful interception is being viewed as a major setback to narcotics trafficking networks operating in and around Jiribam. Security agencies have reiterated their resolve to maintain sustained surveillance and coordinated operations to prevent the movement of illegal drugs.
The operation also reinforces the broader commitment of the security forces and civil administration towards protecting communities from the harmful social and economic consequences of drug abuse and trafficking.
Officials said continued cooperation between security forces, police and local communities remains essential to dismantling trafficking networks and strengthening efforts towards a safer and drug-free Manipur.
