Handwara, July 20: A 27-year-old man lost his life after being electrocuted in the Malabagh area of Qaziabad in Handwara's Kralgund subdivision on Monday evening.

The deceased, identified as Tawseef Ahmad Kaboo, son of Ghulam Nabi Kaboo and a resident of Malabagh, reportedly suffered the electric shock while attempting to switch on a water pump installed near the Pohru River close to his residence. Officials said he accidentally came into contact with an exposed live wire during the process.

Residents of the area rushed to the spot, rescued him, and shifted him to Government Medical College Handwara. However, doctors declared him brought dead.

After the completion of medico legal formalities, including the post mortem examination, the body was handed over to the family for the last rites.

Police have registered the case and started an investigation to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.
