Srinagar, Sep 29: A total of 118.06 km of roads has been macadamised or upgraded across Srinagar district during the current financial year through joint efforts of the Public Works (R&B) Department and Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary informed the Legislative Assembly on Tuesday.

Replying to a question by MLA Ali Mohammad Sagar, the Deputy Chief Minister said 15.43 km of roads in Khanyar constituency had been upgraded under special development directives.
He said the R&B Department’s community centres in Srinagar generated ₹6.83 lakh in revenue during 2025-26, compared with ₹4.15 lakh in the previous year. The revenue is being utilised for essential maintenance works.
Choudhary said the government was also pursuing bottleneck removal on historic road corridors under the supervision of the High-Level Committee (HLC).
On the Syed Meerakshah Road, he said the corridor is 10.33 km long, of which 2.68 km has been fully widened, representing 25.95 per cent physical progress. Settlement and acquisition have been completed for 132 of 332 affected structures.
For the Khanyar-Zadibal-Pandrath Road, measuring 12.45 km, 161 of 314 structures have been acquired, enabling widening of around 2 km of the corridor.
On the Koolipora-Budoobagh Road, the 435-metre widening project has completed 231 metres. Fourteen of the 29 affected structures have been cleared, while the remaining 15 cases are under expedited resolution. The project has been approved at an estimated cost of ₹4.50 crore.
The Deputy Chief Minister said the widening and upgradation proposal for Devi Angan-Hawal Road has been submitted under the CRIF scheme at an estimated cost of ₹31.25 crore. The proposal includes ₹30 crore for land acquisition and utility shifting and ₹1.25 crore for development works along a 1.40-km stretch.
Regarding the Alamgiri Bazar Chowk project, he said the work has been authorised under the UT Sector at an estimated cost of ₹3.35 crore, including acquisition of five structures and redesigning of the junction. Administrative approval has been accorded, while the case is presently under examination at the Administrative Department level for further action and release of funds.
On the Buchpora-Hazratbal Road, revised DPR approval is awaited. Acquisition proceedings involving 34 structures have been initiated, with two structures already acquired. Of the ₹7 crore received for bottleneck removal, ₹20 lakh has been utilised for the two acquisitions, while the remaining amount is awaiting revalidation.
The Babapora-Haba Kadal Road has been substantially cleared, with only four structures remaining to be removed.
For the Habba Kadal-Gowkadal Road, 24 structures are still pending acquisition. While ₹21 lakh is currently available, additional funds are required to complete acquisition and facilitate further widening.
On the Fateh Kadal-Habba Kadal via Chinkral Mohalla Road, the widening project involves 176 structures. Thirteen have been notified under Section 4, while eight have already been acquired through the HLC.
Choudhary said delays on certain stretches were linked to court cases, pending Section 4 notifications, family title disputes and compensation-related issues. Following decisions of the 264th HLC meeting, the department is implementing the streamlined PNC mechanism to expedite pending land acquisition claims.
He said the department is coordinating with the Collector, Land Acquisition (PWD), for validation and timely release of compensation to affected parties, with the objective of reducing public inconvenience and improving Srinagar’s road network.
