The Jammu and Kashmir Public Works (R&B) Department has initiated proceedings against several engineers for delays in snow clearance and alleged unauthorised absence during recent snowfall, official documents reveal.
The action follows a review during Deputy Chief Minister’s visit to the Integrated Command and Control Centre on January 25, which highlighted inefficient duty performance, causing road connectivity disruption and public inconvenience.
An Assistant Engineer from the Machinery Division, Srinagar, was reportedly absent during the visit. Officials from Shopian, Anantnag, Imamsahib, Tangmarg, Zainapora, and other areas had raised concerns over the lapses.
The Deputy Chief Minister directed suspension of officers found responsible and reassignment of duties. FIRs and departmental proceedings will be initiated where warranted. Chief Engineers of the R&B and Mechanical & Hospital Development Departments have been asked to submit reports to facilitate further action.
Authorities stressed that timely snow clearance is critical, and negligence will invite strict consequences.
