
Jammu, Feb 13: Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo on Friday reviewed the progress of the outreach-based Nasha Mukt J&K Abhiyan, led by the Information Department in collaboration with key departments across the Union Territory. The review focused on monitoring, capacity building, and expanding awareness initiatives to combat substance abuse.
The meeting, attended by senior officials from Health, Education, Youth Services & Sports, Social Welfare, Rural Development, Police, Excise, Urban Development, and Deputy Commissioners via video conferencing, emphasized strengthening inter-departmental coordination and technology-driven monitoring.
The Chief Secretary directed linking the Nasha Mukt J&K portal with the National Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA) portal for better visibility, data sharing, and efficient tracking of activities. Departments were instructed to map trained counsellors to educational institutions, Panchayats, Urban Local Bodies, and health facilities, including details of their qualifications, training, and schedules.
He urged the Health Department and IMHANS Srinagar to introduce certified courses on de-addiction and counselling, expanding training capacity in Jammu Division to build skilled human resources to address drug addiction. Departments were also tasked with developing age- and profession-specific awareness content for ASHA workers, Self-Help Groups, youth, elderly citizens, government employees, and police personnel.
The Chief Secretary appreciated the portal’s content and directed it to be hosted on the State Data Centre to ensure reliability and accessibility. Commissioner Secretary, Information M. Raju, reported that over 9,000 awareness events have engaged 4.51 lakh participants, with 218 individuals rehabilitated and 1.83 lakh bulk SMS messages sent to the public.
Social Welfare Secretary Sarmad Hafeez highlighted joint inspections of chemist shops, drives against illicit cultivation, and large-scale outreach activities across districts, while Director, Information & Public Relations Nitish Rajora showcased the portal’s detailed district-wise and department-wise activities.
Reiterating the government’s commitment, the Chief Secretary emphasized sustained coordination, professional training, and technology-driven monitoring to make the Nasha Mukt J&K Abhiyan a transformative public movement across the Union Territory.
