On Tuesday morning, a boat carrying school children capsized in the river Jhelum at Gandabal, Batwara area, leading to deaths of six people, including two school-going twins, Tahir Fayaz and Mudasir Fayaz, and their 40-year-old mother, Firdousa Fayaz.
A man and two minors, one of them his son, are still missing.
Officials said the search operation continued on the second day.
He said multiple teams from various agencies were involved in the search to trace the three missing persons.
“The rescue operation is still underway,” the commandant of the State Disaster Response Force, Atul Sharma said.
He said four teams of SDRF are engaged in the search operation that continued during the night.
The Army's elite Marine Commandos (MARCOS) are also part of the search operation.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Vidhi Kumar Birdhi said that consistent efforts are on from divers and scan teams to search the missing trio in the waters of river Jhelum.
“Divers and scan teams are consistently searching the area to trace out the missing trio. The rescue operation continued throughout the night and resumed today morning. We are trying to search and get them,” IGP said.
“However there is no fresh development as of now,” he said.
The IGP said special divers have their own understanding about water and water currents.
“These special divers are searching the area where they find high probabilities of the body. Generally it has been seen that the body comes to the surface itself after sometime due to decomposition,” he said.
“We have already alerted all Police Stations in Srinagar located along the banks of river Jhelum and directed them to keep eye on developments they observe if any,” the IGP said.
