Motivating Youth

September 26, 2022 |

Fostering the entrepreneurial spirit and encouraging innovation in students at schools and in institutions of higher learning has been on the can do list of the Modi government and by extension, is being percolated down to the state-level in a systematic way.

A couple of days ago we witnessed the launch of the School Innovation Scheme (SIS) under the new National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. These initiatives are aimed at ushering in the next phase of NEP 2020.J&K Lt Governor Manoj Sinha’s message of a nation’s success being linked to the promotion of a “culture of ideas and innovation in classrooms” therefore is timely.
“We cannot achieve big things in life unless we dream big and strive hard to achieve it”, the Lt Governor said on Friday. The need of the hour is to equip our youth with special knowledge, skills, wisom and values as emphasized in NEP-2020.
That the UT government is keen to emerge as a performer in every sector of the national canvas may be a big ask, but not impossible if strengthening the knowledge system in the Indian economy and providing the right opportunities to talented young professionals is done with discipline and determination.
It is an oft repeated fact that universities are the best places to pursue excellence and progress, as well as being environments that support creativity in our young who are not wrong when they say they want a better world to live in.
Young students are the most powerful and invaluable asset of any society, including India, as they possess energy, consciousness and a vision for a more developed and prosperous world.
Educational institutions have a major responsibility to prepare for the future by incubating world class research and innovation on priority. Using NEP-2020 to transform our academic and other institutions with the aim of them being in a position to match international competition in the years ahead isn’t a bad idea and should be welcomed by all stakeholders.
Having an education can never be and should not ever be about rankings in the achievement pendulum. Promoting a scientific temper, giving access to appropriate knowledge and making the youth able and fit for the 21st century has to be the long-term aim.
