Govt sets up 5-members coordination committee
Jammu and Kashmir will host India’s first G-20 summit next year after the country takes over presidency of the global body by the end of this year.
The J&K admin on Thursday set-up a high-level, five-member committee for overall coordination of G-20 meetings which will be held in the Union Territory of J&K next year.
In an order, the General Administration Department said on Thursday that a committee headed by Principal Secretary, Housing & Urban Development Department has been set up for overall coordination of G-20 meetings to be held in the Union Territory of J&K.
According to the order, commissioner secretary, Transport department, administrative secretary Tourism, administrative secretary Hospitality & Protocol department and administrative secretary Culture department are members of the panel.
The order says that principal secretary, Housing & Urban Development Department has been nominated as UT level nodal officer to coordinate the arrangements for G-20 meetings in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
India is expected to take the presidency of G-20 from India in December 2022. Harsh Vardhan Shringla is G-20 chief coordinator and the country will host the G20 Leaders Summit for the first time in India in 2023.
Shringla, who retired April 30, handed over charge to foreign secretary-designate V M Kwatra, who was then India’s ambassador to Nepal. The G20 sherpa is Piyush Goyal, the Indian Commerce Minister.
G20 Bali Summit 2022 is the 17th meeting of the G20 Heads of State and Government Summit which is scheduled to take place in Bali, Indonesia from November 15-16, 2022 under the Presidency of Indonesia with the overall theme of “Recover Together Recover Stronger”.
The summit, which is an important conglomeration of world leaders from Russia, China, the United States, Germany, United Kingdom, European Union, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and Turkey.
The summit will be an important platform for the Union government to showcase the changes that have taken place in Jammu and Kashmir after Article 370 was abrogated and the erstwhile state was downgraded into two union territories.
