Donating Blood is an Act of Solidarity

Giving your blood to someone in need is a gift, it’s like offering someone a chance at life

The requirement for blood donation is increasing day by day. Each year Millions of people need blood transfusions. Major Diseases like dengue, sickle cell anemia, certain types of cancers, surgeries, accidents, natural and man-made disasters etc have been the main cause for blood transfusions around the world.
Saving a human life by donating blood is the greatest service to humanity . Every blood donar is a life saver .Blood Transfusion improves health. Providing safe and adequate blood should be an integral part of every country's National. Coming back to our own Kashmir which has set examples in saving lives by donating blood . Shabir Ahmad a Kashmir blood man from Downtown has set example by donating blood 176 times this year on blood day . Let’s pledge to donate more to give hope to ease someone's life . In my short write up here , I’m putting words from WHO into consideration and sharing those only so that each one of us play a vital role in donating and saving a precious life .
World Blood Donor Day is organised on June 14 each year. However each day is a blood day as it is important to raise awareness . It is an important day organised globally to raise awareness about the Blood donations and its importance in saving lives across . The event was organised for the first time in 2005, by a joint initiative of the World Health Organization, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies to raise awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products, and to thank blood donors for their voluntary, life-saving gifts of blood. Acc to Wikipedia World Blood Donor Day is one of 11 official global public health campaigns marked by the World Health Organization (WHO), along with World Health Day, World Chagas Disease Day, World Tuberculosis Day, World Immunization Week, World Patient Safety Day, World Malaria Day, World No Tobacco Day, World Hepatitis Day, World Antimicrobial Awareness Week and World AIDS Day.

Blood day 2022 : The Day was Created to


Raise global awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products for transfusion;
Highlight the critical contribution voluntary, unpaid blood donors make to national health systems;
Support national blood transfusion services, blood donor organizations and other nongovernmental organizations in strengthening and expanding their voluntary blood donor programmes by reinforcing national and local campaigns.

For 2022, the World Blood Donor Day slogan is “Donating blood is an act of solidarity. Join the effort and save lives” to draw attention to the roles that voluntary blood donations play in saving lives and enhancing solidarity within communities.
The Specific Objectives of this Year’s Campaign are to:
Thank blood donors in the world and create wider public awareness of the need for regular, unpaid blood donation; Highlight the need for committed, year-round blood donation, to maintain adequate supplies and achieve universal and timely access to safe blood transfusion;
Recognize and promote the values of voluntary unpaid blood donation in enhancing community solidarity and social cohesion;
Raise awareness of the need for increased investment from governments to build a sustainable and resilient national blood system and increase collection from voluntary non-remunerated blood donors.
