2 terrorists killed, 2 soldiers injured in Sopore gunfight

Two terrorists were killed and two army personnel were injured during a gunbattle in Sopore area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Friday.
The encounter began on Thursday at Check Mohalla Nowpora in the Sopore area of Baramulla after troops laid siege around the area after receiving inputs from intelligence agencies about the presence of two terrorists there.
After the night’s lull, the fresh exchange of firing between the two sides took place today morning.
“In the ensuing firefight, two terrorists were killed. Two army personnel were also injured in the gunfight and they were shifted to a hospital for treatment,” sources said.
A civilian was also injured near the site of the encounter yesterday.
Talking to reporters in Sopore, IGP Kashmir Vidhi Kumar Birdhi said security forces are alert to thwart nefarious designs of terrorists and resolute to minimize terrorist incidents in the Valley.
“We are committed to ensure a safe and peaceful environment for elections & further our efforts are on and are determined and resolute to minimize terrorist incidents in Kashmir,” he said.
The IGP said the killing of two terrorists in Sopore is proof that security forces are alert and committed in making Jammu and Kashmir peaceful.
“As per the documents recovered from the slain, one terrorist has been identified as Saifullah. The identity of the second one is being ascertained,” he said.
